This portfolio illustrates Amit Imtiaz’s journey through the intertwined worlds of academia and architectural practice. As an Assistant Professor and practicing architect, his path is shaped by curiosity, observation, and the joy of making. Each project whether born in the studio or the classroom becomes a story of learning, experimentation, and dialogue with place and people.

Since 2016, I have mentored and curated a variety of design studios that emphasize both critical thinking and hands-on making. My teaching philosophy centers on inspiring students to understand the value of design as a process that bridges creativity and real-world application. I encourage an exploratory approach within architectural projects, engaging with diverse building typologies and spatial contexts. Believing that architecture extends beyond the act of building, I have also guided students in product and installation design, where they explored innovative, user-centered solutions for everyday life. Through this integrated approach, I aim to cultivate in students a sensitivity toward design as both a practical and transformative discipline.

Alongside mentoring design studios, I have had the privilege of supervising numerous architecture graduation projects, each offering a unique lens through which to explore the evolving boundaries of architectural practice. The projects have ranged from speculative proposals set in hypothetical contexts to deeply rooted urban interventions, revealing how architecture can intersect with social, ecological, and economic dimensions. Some students envisioned architectures emerging from the depths of the sea, while others responded to the complexities of dense urban fabrics or proposed frameworks for revenue-generating community hubs. Through these diverse explorations, I have witnessed the students’ growth in conceptual thinking, technical execution, and critical awareness. Supervising these projects has also been a reflective process for me continually reinforcing the importance of adaptability, interdisciplinary inquiry, and the nurturing of individual design voices within academic practice.
